Baklava’s history reaches as far as antiquity?

Ancient Greece’s most popular sweet was “gastrin”, that was later renamed to “kopti” during the Byzantine period and to “baklava” in modern Greece. It seems like Athineos was aware of this sweet treat, whose recipe he included in his great work "Dipnosofistai", dating back to 100 AD! He informs us, therefore, that "it is made of dough leaves stuffed with nuts, honey, sesame seeds, pepper and poppy seeds". (XIV, 647-648)

Kataifi is a famous sweet creation along many cuisines of the Mediterranean Sea?

Depending on the country, you can taste it in many different versions. The most popular view, however, has it that Afyonkarahisar is its original place of origin. It was then brought to Greece by Asia Minor refugees and quickly gained a leading position among the most beloved syruped sweets in Greek cuisine. Its secret? Proper baking, first-class nuts and fine thyme honey!
